Bhashini.AI to Bridge Language Gap during 2024 Poll Drive in India

Bhashini.AI, a homegrown app that can translate Hindi into several Indian languages is likely to be deployed extensively by the world largest political organization, the Bharatiya Janata Party. This AI tool is slated to be used for real-time translations of speeches of India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Damodardas Modi, as he tours parts of south India and east India where Hindi isn’t the lingua franca or is spoken quite rarely.

India, the world’s largest democracy with over 986.9 eligible voters, goes to polls on April 19, in the first phase of the elections. The polls will consist of seven phases to cover the entire country and will end on June 1, while results are expected to be declared on June 4, 2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a fresh mandate for his third term in office. The premier and his party, BJP, are known for leveraging technology to further their agenda for polls. The political party wants to woo voters for the 130 seats of south India where Hindi is shunned and hence the PM could face hurdles getting his message through. Bhashini.AI is expected to bridge this cultural divide.

According to sources, a team of techies will embed Bhashika.AI the Narendra Modi app. This would enable uses of app to hear their PM’s speech in any language of their choice. The arrangement is expected to further the already burgeoning popularity of Modi in remote electoral constituencies and give a personal touch to the BJP election drive.

Earlier, BJP and other political parties hired the services of human translators. The system wasn’t always useful because getting Hindi speaking translators often fumbled with words and caused colossal blunders in translations. Bhashika.AI is expected to help the party and its candidates to engage in clearer and astute communications.
