OpenAI Now Lets You Use ChatGPT & Dall-E-3 without Account

OpenAI is now allowing users across the world to use its renowned chatbot ChatGPT and AI based image too, Dall-E-3 without any account, according to news reports. The move was promoted by the need for OpenAI to improve performance of both its AI powered tools that’ve some 100 million weekly users in about 185 countries.

However, the news report doesn’t clarify whether this waiver is applicable only for using ChatGPT-3.5 version or includes the upgraded ChatGPT-4 that’s currently available for a monthly subscription of $20. The fee includes access to both, ChatGPT-4 and Dall-E-3 and most likely, free access wouldn’t be permitted. Upon launch, persons desirous of using ChatGPT-3.5 had to create an account on its creator’s website, OpenAI.

Nobody could use ChatGPT-3.5 without such an account. However, signing up to create an account for using ChatGPT-3.5 was simple. All it took was providing your email ID or signing in through Google, Microsoft or Facebook accounts. Open AI would generally grant instant access to ChatGPT-3.5 after signup.

“It’s core to our mission to make tools like ChatGPT broadly available so that people can experience the benefits of AI. More than 100 million people across 185 countries use ChatGPT weekly to learn something new, find creative inspiration, and get answers to their questions. Starting today, you can use ChatGPT instantly, without needing to sign-up. We’re rolling this out gradually, with the aim to make AI accessible to anyone curious about its capabilities,” an OpenAI statement, says.

It added that Open AI “may use what you provide to ChatGPT to improve our models for everyone. If you’d like, you can turn this off through your Settings – whether you create an account or not.”

In the statement published on Open AI website, the company extolls the benefits of signing up for using ChatGPT-3.5, stating that having an account allows you to save and review your chat history, share chats, and unlock additional features like voice conversations and custom instructions.

Meanwhile, Open AI has introduced extra content safeguards to ChatGPT-3.5. These include blocking prompts and generations in a wider range of categories. While Open AI doesn’t mention so openly, these extra content safeguards could have been enforced to prevent misuses of ChatGPT-3.5 in the run-up to the US presidential polls and objections from other countries including India and Indonesia which also hold general elections this year.
